Haint Fiction.
Stories behind the telling.
Haint Fiction gathers stories imagined from the edges of the historical record. Each begins with a documented place, event, community, or unanswered question, then follows a fictional voice beyond what the surviving sources can tell us.
These stories do not present invention as historical testimony. Each entry includes an Archivist’s Note explaining the documented history behind the work, what remains uncertain, and where the fiction begins.
The collection is told through recurring ghostwriter voices, each shaped by a different region, experience, and way of understanding North Carolina’s past.
